A Response
September 10, 1999

[Note: the following is an abridged version of Kyla's reply to an anti-Christian dissertation that Brad issued on September 9, 1999. Originally all responses to Brad were made on his message board, which he promptly deleted when he realized that he was greatly outnumbered. The selections from Kyla's response that I had saved when Brad deleted it all is what I have here, and are the selections I feel to be the most important.]

[Someone's proof] may not be acceptable to you because it's not tangible physical proof, but my beliefs are the basis of my religious faith. Through my observations, my thoughts, what I've read, what I've heard, and what I've seen, I know at this point in my life that God exists because I have mentally proven it. Perhaps this makes me naive to put faith in that which I cannot see or completely understand, but perhaps you are also naive to put faith only in that which you CAN see and understand.
You and I both (hopefully) still have a lot of living yet to do including more observations of the world around us to make. We've also more thoughts yet to think about others' beliefs as well as our own. Either of us can alter or completely change our beliefs at any time in our lives, and that is the wonderful side free will (be it a God given gift, as I believe, or just this thing that humans have).
I truly feel that He gave us free will so we would go to him out of choice. (...) God wants His followers to come to Him out of will, not force. This also means that there will be non believers, because we are allowed to not believe if we so choose. Because of free will, there have been and will be events like the Holocaust.
Just as you cannot justly blame a king for his people causing riot, you cannot justly blame God for His people causing atrocity.
