Everyone has some form of appreciation for music; that's no secret. Obviously by dedicating a fraction of my website to music I cannot offer up-to-date news and information throughout the music industry. No, of course not. My intention is simply to share with you my musical tastes by identifying a few of my favorite bands. This is definitely not a complete list, only the few at the top at the time I decided to conjure it all up. So if you're still interested, read on. If not, read on anyway. You might find something you didn't know you liked! A Perfect Circle, Tool Despite my efforts to avoid listening to Tool, I finally succumbed to their sound. To my surprise, I have discovered that Tool is perhaps the most talented hard rock band - ever. While still a very large part of Tool, lead singer Maynard is now part of A Perfect Circle, another awesome band that I've grown to love in the last year or so. While the music is different, it isn't so much so that I can't draw the two together. Tool's first album was released in 1992; A Perfect Circle's only album (so far) was released in 2000. Official sites: APerfectCircle.com and ToolBand.com Collective Soul I have liked Collective Soul since I heard their first released song "Shine" almost ten years ago. In the past couple years, the band has grown on me so much so that I've bought all of their albums, and I can rarely go a week without listening to something by them. Collective Soul also has a habit of touring with Creed, something that can't be a bad thing. I only hope to catch one of the shows one day. Their first album was released in 1994. Unofficial site: CollectiveSoul.org Creed Creed is by and far one of my favorite bands of all time - not bad considering they've only had two albums released so far. You're probably most familiar with songs "Higher" and "With Arms Wide Open." Some complain that Creed is overwhelmingly overplayed, while I testify that their music is just absolutely incredible and that it is impossible for them to be overplayed. Then again, I don't listen or watch public music services often (radio, MTV, etc.), so Creed is only played to me when I feel like hearing them - and that goes for all other music as well. Creed's first album was released in 1997 and has been certified 5x Platinum. Their second album is easily my favorite CD in my collection of over 200, and has been certified 8x Platinum. Official site: Creed.com Dave Matthews Band The Dave Matthews Band is one of the most talented groups of musical artists my ears have ever experienced. They put together different instruments to generate some of the most pleasing sounds. You would probably be most familiar with songs such as "What Would You Say" or "Crash Into Me." These guys make great music to put you to sleep, keep you awake, and just about anything in between! Their first album was released in 1994. Official site: DMBand.com Deftones I have only just recently begun to like the Deftones, and only due to the fact that my musical tastes have expanded so much in the last year. The Deftones offer an awesome blend of rock, metal and rap that just captures me anytime I hear it. Occasionally, however, they just feel like screaming, in which case I quickly change the music. A screech here and there can easily be avoided though, and the Deftones are an excellent band regardless. Their first album was released in 1995. Official site: Deftones.com Everclear Everclear is easily one of the most talented bands out there. An awesome blend of 90% rock and 10% rap help make them favorites everywhere! With a band as eclectic as these guys, it's difficult to go wrong. Their first album was released in 1993, and they've only gotten better since. Official site: Everclear Online Linkin Park Linkin Park is a young alternative rock band, and all I can say is wow. Awesome guitar, awesome drums, a little piano, and the lead singer's voice is awesome, especially for a hard rock band. I don't care who says what about this band, they have an incredible sound. If you don't believe me, download an mp3 or something. You know, some of the voices in the background might make your parents think it's rap... Official site: LinkinPark.com Metallica No words are necessary. Everyone knows Metallica. Everyone knows Metallica rocks. If someone does not, then they've obviously spent much of their life under a large rock. Perhaps the band is most notorious for its part in the great 'Napster Debate' ... Despite any hard feelings toward the band I may have, the music is awesome, and that's all we should ever ask for in a band. Their first album was released in 1983. Unofficial site: Encyclopedia Metallica Pink Floyd Anything I have said about favorite bands above only applies to modern history. Pink Floyd is simply the greatest band to grace my ears. Ever. Pink Floyd is not only creative in the studios, but the artwork and enigmas behind the band are equally impressive - it's no wonder the band has such a following. If you're not familiar with Pink Floyd, you're missing out! Feel free to download Winamp Skina, created by me many months ago in the height of my obsession with Pink Floyd music. Unofficial sites: PinkFloyd.com and Bright Side Of The Moon Radiohead I have Mike Farinelli to thank for this one. Radiohead is easily one of the best bands of our time, and many consider them to be "the next Pink Floyd." I never bought into that opinion, for I have always loved Pink Floyd and thought it to be impossible. Finally, I was forced into listening to the band, and suffice it to say that I was pleased. Do Mike a favor, give this band a try. Unofficial site: At Ease Stabbing Westward For years I have had friends telling me that Stabbing Westward is an awesome band, but only recently have I allowed myself to discover them for myself. They were right; Stabbing Westward is awesome. This band provides an amazing blend of rock and techno, and hints of blues deep below the surface of the sound. I cannot think of any bands that Stabbing Westward compares to, which is a good thing I think. If you have not heard anything by Stabbing Westward, ask me for a sample mp3 or come over and have a listen. Ironically, their unoffical website listed below is titled "Darkest Days" and uses very bright colors... Unofficial site: Darkest Days © III Enterprises & neotope.com |
